Mahindra Global Recruit 2006

  • Special Associate to the Chief Investment Officer, Emerging Markets Management (An emerging markets investment management firm in Washington, DC) 2003-2005

Designation: Executive - Business Development in International Operations

On joining the Global Recruit program, I was assigned to the International Operations department of the Automotive Sector where I was educated on the various aspects of the business and subsequently assigned to the Commercial cell, where I helped asses the financial viability of our new international ventures, including our first ever overseas assembly lines in Egypt and Brazil. I was also deeply involved on the legal front, negotiating supply, assembly and distribution contracts with our international partners.

Afterward, I joined the Marketing team for South America where I helped manage existing distributor relationships while exploring and evaluating new market entry in several Latin American countries. During the period of this entire engagement, I was also working with the Strategy team, helping map out Mahindra Automotive's global growth plans.

The highlight of my time at M&M was a year-long project I worked on for the MD's office, which involved a comprehensive study of the Mahindra Group's transformation into a major Indian multinational corporation and subsequent implications from a business culture point of view. This was a prestigious assignment which allowed me, while working with a small dedicated team, to be able to deliver a set of concrete recommendations to the Group Management Board.

My India experience has been overwhelmingly positive. Not only have I formed many deep friendships in Mumbai but I also feel very at home in the city. It can be a little overwhelming at first, but with a little patience and perseverance you will find yourself having a tough time leaving!

My experience was also greatly enriched by the various trips I made throughout the year, from trekking in the mountains of Ladakh to scuba diving in the Andaman Islands. For shorter breaks, the beaches of Goa are hard to beat, as are the cultural and tourist attractions that are just a short flight or train ride away. You can spend a lifetime exploring everything India has to offer, and spending two years with Mahindra & Mahindra are a great way to start.
